THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GRAND RAPIDS HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR A MIXTURE OF SNOW...FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 AM EST THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER...
* EXPECT TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES BY DAYBREAK THURSDAY.
* LOW PRESSURE THAT WAS STRENGTHENING OVER THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES WILL BEGIN TO SPREAD SNOW OVER SOUTHWEST LOWER MICHIGAN LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THERE WILL BE THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY SNOWFALL THROUGH MIDNIGHT.
* SNOW WILL LIKELY MIX WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN LATE TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING. A SMALL COATING OF ICE WILL BE POSSIBLE.
* ANY MIX OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL TRANSITION TO SNOW TOWARD MID DAY WEDNESDAY. LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL INTENSIFY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WITH LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW BURSTS. SNOW SHOWERS WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY WIND GUSTS TO 40 MPH DURING THE EVENING.
* GUSTY WINDS ALONG WITH RAPIDLY FALLING TEMPERATURES WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS BY LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

* ROADS WILL LIKELY BECOME SNOW COVERED BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON...POSSIBLY IMPACTING THE TAIL END OF THE COMMUTE HOME.
* TRAVEL WILL BE MOST SEVERELY IMPACTED WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AS SNOW... BLOWING SNOW...AND RAPIDLY FALLING TEMPERATURES OCCUR NEAR THE TIME OF THE AFTERNOON COMMUTE. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT THE EVENING...ESPECIALLY ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 131.
